I am back from my trip to India to see my mum and family. I had limited access to computer there, so did not follow up the pictures here. Here are some I took, some incorrectly identified no doubt; http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 505&type=1
I took a few of Indian street markets too, will sort them out slowly.
Nice to be back, it was so cold there without the central heating

I tried posting them on my Flickr account, it has locked me out!! They are just too many to post here and I have to reduce each one's size manually. Here are a few. Hopefully, flickr will unlock me in 24 hours, then I can post a few more of birds and escenes
Red vented Bulbul, endemic to the area where I was;

The Copper Beach was a stunner Uschi. We had a huge one in our garden as children and I've loved them ever since. :)
The dinner was delicious, even though I say it myself. (She who cooked for once). :o  (OH has been going through one of his I love to cook stages).

Those are lovely birds Mamta.

Oooh, I've always wanted to see a Bülbül!!! I've only heard of them.

The kingfisher and the dove are lovely, too! The doves have got such a lovely laugh. My uncle had one called Fritzken.

Only one from me today. My kitchen window this morning.

Hi Mamta,
Books can vary but as you say it was in India I could be wrong, it has the brown flash on it's wing & the reddish eye + the white throat but yes I may well be wrong.

The Clarkes Nutcracker is a native of Canada/Alaska

Having looked at many whitethroats on the internet, I think you are right Terry. Its tail looked a lot longer, that was the problem. But looking more closely, it does have white throat and red eyes

Stuck for something different to wear at a wedding?
This dress is made from woven STAINLESS STEEL with a silk underdress.
It's on display in the Winter Gardens in Sheffield.

A bit more about the wedding dress.

This wedding dress was made by Lesley Campbell, a lecturer in Fashion Design at Sheffield Hallam University.

She made it for her daughter, Rachel, who got married in December 2012. Rachel asked for an alternative wedding dress that still retained the luxurious qualities of traditional wedding fabrics.
Lesley decided to try making the skirt in stainless steel mesh fabric. She tried at first with a thicker grade to give a richer feel, but it proved too heavy and awkward.
This final grade achieved the right balance between shape and weight. The mesh is made by a company based in Warrington, and a more common application is for cafétiere filters.
Although the fabric appears soft and delicate, it is quite difficult to work with. The rough edges can be quite sharp and Lesley frequently cut her hands whilst working on the dress.
It also creases easily, so a crinkled effect had to be built into the overall design.

The skirt and the bodice upper section are made out of the mesh. For a more comfortable feel, and to give the dress shape and volume, the underdress is made from Savoy Silk – a heavy duchess silk satin.
Shine on you Crazy Diamond.

That's fascinating.
Metal is an interesting material to work with, but I know a bit about the problems, too. I used a steel mesh skeleton for my hat (a much, much coarser mesh, I hasten to add) and my fingers bled by the time I had finished it.

Thin wire makes great jewellery, but it breaks so easily, the pieces don't last long and one has to do them all over again.

Lovely orchid studies, Hicky! I like the one with the subtle grey background best. It goes to show that one needs to snap quite a bit to see what works best.
