wild garlic

I just noticed that the wild garlic that I put in a pot (two years ago) looks ready to crop (I don't wait for it to flower, yes?)

So looking around for recipes, because I am not going to get much more than a meal from it, so it has to be a special one. I will check, but I think the stuff I planted in the garden has disappeared. So much for it taking over... Anyway I found this and it made me laugh (silently):

If anybody wants any leaves/flowers/roots, please let me know. I've developed it in my garden from a handful originally picked in Devon and am happy to share.

Mine is not showing yet this year, it has probably died :(.
It is nice in salads and in Raita yoghurt. I also make a stir-fried type of bhaji with potatoes and paratha Indian flat breads.

i would love to grow some wild garlic in our garden. however, i have met people who insist that three cornered leek is wild garlic - a plant which over-runs our place, is impossible to get rid of and whose flavour disappears when cooked, so i am loth to say - yes, please send me some! but thanks for the offer. (unless you can post a photo of your plants).

I agree Scully - I was offered a pot of wild garlic a few years ago - I was given Allium triquetrum :scared:

Mine is definitely wild garlic and not the aforementioned leek.

We always harvest leaves as soon as they come up but leaving plenty behind to allow the plants to continue growing through their season -- we also want to allow the plants to flower, some of which we let go to seed so they might propogate a few more plants and fill out the little patch a bit more densely and some we harvest - they make very nice tempura, much like elderflowers do but a different flavour, obviously. The flower stems are more pungent than the leaves alone.

I thought I'd revive this thread...

Whenever I think of wild garlic, I can only ever think to make pesto, flavoured butter, stir through pasta, etc.

Is there anything you do with it which might inspire me?

I used a bit in fried rice tonight and want to do chicken Kiev tomorrow. I also aw a nice recipe for wild garlic and potato soup which I might try.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

I do these. I made the parathas last week. I was thinking of using the flower heads in salad, but forgot! I use wild chive flowers for salads.

It makes a lovely soup with the addition of a few spuds and some butter beans. :chops:

A couple of days ago we had a fox in our garden that both evidently devoured a large bird - from the size of the remaining feathers - and also stole my small pot of wild garlic that my neighbour had given me.
My son joked that he was obviously a bit of a gourmet

Our garden is all of about 25 ft long and barely as wide. The next thing he did was come up to our patio glass doors while we were watching telly in the evening and scratch on them with his paws and push his nose right up against the glass, as your dog or cat might do if they had been shut out ...
We were seriously worried he'd decided to live under our deck but he hasn't been back, yet ... maybe the restaurant didn't live up to his expectations!

Sorry - a bit off topic! But when I get the replacement wild garlic from my neighbour I'll look back at the ideas on this thread!

We had a fox digging out a den under our decking at the previous house :( Chicken wire was the not very attractive solution.
